Checkout: UX Assessment

The purchasing process is one of the key aspects of an ecommerce. We asked our SEO & UX team what items are usually analyzed during the assessment phase, in order to optimize this process and make it more efficient.

Check-out issues can be many and of different kinds.

Here are some of the critical aspects we often find during our ecommerce UX analysis, and the related questions you should ask to understand what works and what can be improved:

  • Guest checkout: is it present? Is it visible as the first or the only option? Do you need to have a pre-checkout page?
  • User registration: should the registration be placed at the beginning or at the end of the process?
  • Password: are its entering requirements clear? Can I see the characters entered or do I only see them after receiving an error message?
  • Payment methods: are the main payment systems for each market present?
  • Returns: is the return info (costs/how to do it/times) described clearly during check-out, or do I have to exit the process to find out?
  • Shipping: are the times and costs visible? Do I need to exit the purchasing process to find this information? Is it clear when I will receive the item?
  • Shipping address: Is the “at” field to ship the parcel wherever I want, even at the office, present?
  • Keypad Selection: can we use the right keyboard (e.g. numeric keypad for number fields) so as to enjoy a better mobile experience?

There is no one-size-fits-all recipe; however, the check-out should be optimized by analyzing its KPIs and using Ab-testing and progressive releases

As always, there is no one-size-fits-all recipe; however, the check-out should be optimized by analyzing its KPIs and using Ab-testing and progressive releases.
